Just when you think you've figured out an area, something new will arrive - a strange pig mask, perhaps - and it opens up new ways to live. Or die. Did I mention that everything wants to kill you? With a strong story and a distinctive look, Smoke and Sacrifice more than earns its place in the survival genre. Just don't forget to craft that lantern.
It's hard not to fall in love with Smoke and Sacrifice, simply because it is a beautiful game. But you shouldn’t pick up this game for the aesthetics alone; its whole design and premise is on point, altogether making for a fascinating survival experience. You can draw a lot of parallels to other survival games, but Smoke and Sacrifice stands out on its own thanks to Sachi’s compelling story.
Smoke and Sacrifice certainly has the key genre elements (exploring, collecting, crafting), but perhaps it's the art that stands out most of all and a beautiful hand-painted world with detailed characters awaits. The style befits the dark gritty tale perfectly. The only downside is that despite being promoted as an open world, there actually isn't much freedom.
