The bottom line is that TSW is a very good game right now and is a great game in the making. ...Add in a dedicated team of developers anxious to make it the go-to MMO for players and you have a surefire recipe for success. ...I firmly believe that The Secret World, like a fine wine, is one of those rare MMOs that will only improve with time and attention, something that Funcom is clearly prepared to do.

The Secret World flirts with brilliance and – at least, during earlier zones – looks primed to seal the deal. But, as time goes on, its its seemingly bottomless bag of tricks starts to look a bit shallow. The story, world, skill system, and investigation missions definitely do their damndest to rewrite the MMO rulebook, but uninspired combat, ho-hum PVP, uninteresting late-game quests, and general clunkiness keep TSW's smartest innovations from truly shining.

And so The Secret World isn't a game for those craving a quick and satisfying player battle. Instead, it's for those who seek uninviting crevasses and insidious conspiracies. It's for those who want their intelligence challenged--not to mindlessly battle monsters lifted from the Book of Generic Fantasy Creatures. ...The Secret World requires you to dig more deeply than you might have expected. But when you do, you find a fascinating game willing to divulge its secrets to anyone ready to listen.
