Summary

Rising Storm 2: Vietnam is the sequel to PC Gamer’s 2011 & 2013 ‘Multiplayer Game of the Year’, published by Tripwire Interactive and developed by Antimatter Games, the same team that created the award-winning and innovative asymmetric gameplay of the original Rising Storm. For the first time, the authentic gunplay and visceral first-person action of the Red Orchestra series is coming to an era of automatic rifles, man-portable grenade launchers and more modern weapons systems. Rising Storm 2: Vietnam casts players into a brutal, authentic recreation of the Vietnam War.

And like its predecessors, RS2 is still one of the rare shooters that emphasizes fragility over power. It puts more destructive capability in each player’s hands than the series ever has—good communication and good reflexes can make a single AK-47 an absolute monster—but it can also smack your screen to blackness the second you step out of cover.

If Rising Storm 2: Vietnam has a soft spot it’s in the visuals of the game. The graphics are a mixed bag. Things like the actual environments and maps are pretty good looking. The GTX 1080 that we played the game on seemed to be more than enough to keep it stable in terms of frame rate. Rising Storm 2: Vietnam takes the soul of Red Orchestra and brings into a more modern setting. The game hits a sweet spot between realism, fun, and required teamwork that few games do.

Rising Storm 2: Vietnam is an intense shooter that stresses teamwork over running-and-gunning. The chaos on the battlefield truly shows you what it's like to be under fire.
