The time trials included in the Director’s Cut edition are, as expected, counterintuitive. Puzzles and time trials just don’t mix. The only way to approach them is to fail them until you figure out the solution, then ace them in a fraction of the allotted time, which completely obviates the time limit. Racing for a new record is boring for the same reason. The many secret puzzles tucked into the core game are far more enjoyable.
Q.U.B.E. has a cerebral swagger that is hard not to like. Add in the new narrative and time trial mode, and the Director's Cut is an enjoyable challenge that comes recommended.
Whichever path you choose, it’s difficult to deny that Toxic Games has created something that is both durable and genuinely compelling. Smart, sketchy but pacy, Q.U.B.E: Director’s Cut is more than worth the price of admission, regardless of format.
