Summary

Adrenaline junkies and speed fiends will find themselves on the wrong side of the law when they race for their lives in Need for Speed: The Run. This game takes players on a heart-pounding cross-country race from San Francisco to New York. Players are lured into an underground world of illicit, high-stakes racing. The heat is on -- and it isn't just the fuzz who are after you. Entering the race is just the beginning as you blow across borders, weave through dense urban traffic, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds.

I really wanted to like Need for Speed: The Run for the PC; unfortunately, I did not. The Run has many good qualities and had a great deal of potential, but the poor game design and subpar execution make it tough to recommend The Run for PC users. If you’re totally starved for an arcade racer then The Run could keep you busy for a few hours. Just be aware there are much better options available for your PC.

There’s a good idea buried under the enormous drifts of tedium, but even EA’s signature polish only manages to panel-beat this into passable game. This should have been a modern-day Outrun, instead it’s an obvious misfire.

Need for Speed: The Run had a chance to do what no Need for Speed game has successfully done: align a good story with a quality racing game. At the finish line, it failed to do either. The story is equal parts ridiculous and boring. The racing game is good technically, but shallow in content and horribly paced due to ungodly loading times. Keep playing Hot Pursuit or Shift, give this one a pass, and pray that Electronic Arts doesn't keep driving the Need for Speed franchise into the ground with mediocre titles like this.
