Machinarium is a must-play for point-and-click fans. It hearkens back to the early days of the genre with a brutal level of difficulty that will keep you puzzled for hours. This difficulty is also the game's weakness, though, and some players will be frustrated when they just want to explore this fascinating world. But it is visually stunning, has some of the best audio you'll ever hear in a game, and is surprisingly emotional. Just come ready for a challenge.
These aren't entirely inconsiderable faults, but they should in no way dissuade you from playing a game as atmospheric, focused, and altogether clever as Machinarium. If you were interested enough in the adventure genre to hit the jump and read this review, then don't worry -- some hiccups notwithstanding, Machinarium is just plain one of the best adventure games ever made.
Even with small issues like that, Machinarium remains fun and engaging throughout its entire runtime. If you haven’t taken the plunge now would be a great time to do so. The updated PC version is free for previous owners, but any new comers can pick it up and be introduced immediately to those changes.
