Lovers isn’t particularly long—you could easily get through the campaign in around six hours—but diversity and some sticky difficulty spikes make it feel like a neatly plotted, distinguished adventure. Whether you’re exploring space with a capable friend or loyal pet, this is a stellar idea, romantically executed.
A few difficulty spikes threaten to spoil the colorful, effervescent fun in Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime’s frantic cooperative 2D-shooter action, but its novel core emphasis on relying on coordination with another player or an AI partner to overcome such challenges is usually strong enough to overcome the occasional frustration. As a bonus, diverse level design and multiple fun powerups help maintain variety.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime can occasionally feel a little too stressful for its own good, but there's something undeniably lovely about its core design. It is, ultimately, an object lesson in dealing with hardships — that even when they grow to be far too much to handle, they can be softened with the support of a patient and cooperative friend.
