Summary

Jack Keane is an amusing, action-packed Point 'n' Click Adventure with loads of allusions to well-known computer games and classic movies. Players assume the role of daring adventurer Jack and accompany him in his travels during the early colonial era. Once again short on cash, no sooner does Jack accept a relatively innocent assignment than he's up against a truly mad scientist and his army of trained apes. The game takes Jack to settings such as London, Capetown and the jungles of India - and he wouldn't be Jack if he didn't run into shifty characters wherever he goes...

The presentation of the title is very well done and effectively communicates the feel and adventure of the Victorian era. If you enjoy the point-and-click adventures of years past and have several hours to burn, then Jack Keane is a nice gaming option. It could be the perfect title if you plan on taking a long trip this summer to an exotic locale.

You'd have to be pretty hard-hearted not to enjoy Jack Keane. It may be a little too cutesy in some spots and the puzzles may be a bit too obtuse or conventional in others, but the sheer sense of cartoon adventure that permeates every frame drives the game over these potholes.

A majority of the puzzles may seem too easy at first, but the difficulty does ramp up later in the game to provide a decent challenge for puzzle solvers. Voice acting can be a little grating at times and the jokes could have been better, but this light-hearted adventure can be fun for those who aren't interested in a serious mystery. It would be fantastic to see what else Deck13 can come up for those of us who enjoy a good romp through the jungle. Be sure to stay until the end of the credits for some amusing outtakes.
