You've never played World War 2 the way it was meant to be played... with lumbering tanks dominating the battlefield, crucial supply chains fueling the frontlines, being a cog in the machine of colossal combined arms warfare. Hell Let Loose puts you in the chaos of war, complete with deep player-controlled vehicles, a dynamically evolving frontline, and crucial platoon-focused gameplay that commands the tide of battle. This is a simulation of war... not an arcade arena shooter.

Hell Let Loose is one of the hyped-up multiplayer FPS PC games last year. Set in WW2, two armies of 50 players each battle for control over strategic sectors on the map.

It piqued my interest because I grew up playing WW2 shooters like Allied Assault and the promise of a 50v50 chaos sounded fun. Getting into it is not really that hard, controls are intuitive and familiar; squad selection, as expected, is hit-or-miss; and above average graphics. It’s also best to play with friends or join a Discord server.

My general experience leans toward negative because of where I am. I have to choose between comms or ping. I can play on an English-speaking server but pings are above 250ms; or play on sub-80ms servers but with Cantonese/Mandarin-speaking players.

At its best, Hell Let Loose is a fun, tactical game. At its worst, it’s a subpar FPS confused between becoming a purely tactical, squad-based FPS like ARMA or a twitch, skill-based shooter like Valorant.

Despite these complaints, I still find myself playing the game a few hours each week. It's maybe because I still love WW2 shooters or because I feel invested in the game to just stop.

If players are willing to communicate over voice, work together to achieve local and broader objectives, and have the patience to play slowly, Hell Let Loose can be amazing. It may not happen every session, but a full game of Hell Let Loose with a dedicated, communicative teams is a must-experience gaming moment for any fans of tactical shooters.

The overall gameplay is great and with the many classes available, you will always find something that suits you. In terms of online shooters, this is one we can recommend, especially when you can add some friends to the equation.

Hell Let Loose demands commitment, cooperation, and enough patience to learn the game through several hours of painful, frequent death and have a genuine willingness to contribute to a squad instead of being a lone hero. Meet these requirements and you’re in for a singular and memorable battlefield simulation.
