Halo: Spartan Strike's upgraded parts aren't immediately apparent, but the sum total is pretty striking. A pinch of better aiming here, a heaping helping of Promethian enemies there, and annoying microtransactions nowhere make Spartan Strike worth the quick and cheap sub-ten-dollar tour. ...Spartan Strike is a fun top-down shooter that makes good use of the Halo license.

And while, typically, achievements are not worth noting, Halo: Spartan Strike's inclusion as an Xbox game for Windows means that achievements can already be earned without having to wait for the unannounced but presumptive Xbox One version. ...While the lack of multiplayer is disappointing, it features more than enough loadout options to add variety that it warrants repeat playthroughs. More importantly, Spartan Strike still retains Halo's core combat appeal despite the top-down view, auto-aiming, and amped up armor abilities.

Overall we enjoyed blasting away at the Covenant and Prometheans in Halo: Spartan Strike. There's some tense set pieces to fight through, and once again they've managed to cleverly adapt the Halo brand to fit this alternative perspective. Having said all that, while we most certainly appreciated the effort, it still feels like there's something missing that could have made this a more thrilling experience.
