Make no mistake, I really, really liked Halcyon 6, but there are just so many great ideas in play, that it frustrated me to not see them mesh better. I’m sure once all the stretch goal have been delivered that we’ll see how Halcyon was meant to be played, but until then, there’s still plenty of content to keep you busy, and Halcyon 6 gets my praise for trying to do something fresh.

It’s not often that a team of developers will revisit their product to address its flaws. I’d say it’s more unheard of than rare, but not to Massive Damage. Regardless of how well-received their initial product was, Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition is an evolution of it. The game is in-depth, rewarding when needed, and most importantly, a hell of a lot of fun. Most definitely, you should check out Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition.

As an update of the original (which players get for free if they already own Starbase Commander, which is a great bonus), Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition adds some cool new systems, but fails to fix the problem of a grind in combat. Adding timers to moves slowed a system that was always very slow even further. Given how prevalent combat is, it is unfortunate this was not more heavily addressed, as the rest of the game shows tremendous improvement. It is simply is not as "lightspeed" as it should be.
