About this game

Developer: Bugbear Entertainment
Content Rating: Teen

FlatOut is an adrenaline-filled racing game that brings cheap, rusty, banged-up cars to battle it out on intensive closed courses. First one to the finish line hogs not only the road but also most of the prize money, so it's every man for himself with all means necessary. Cutting edge damage modelling techniques and detailed visual car damage unleash the full potential of virtual racing.

The online mode is full of problems. You'll experience slowdown and some latency which takes any edge off of any skills you may have been able to cultivate. With the other players floundering around as much as me it was just one big mess. Like fat chicks mud wrestling on the side of a mountain.

But if you can look past some of these flaws, the game's delightfully unscripted core racing mechanics can be a lot of fun, especially when played against others in a multiplayer setting. As it is, it's a very good game that falls just shy of greatness, and serious demolition racing fans would do well to check it out.

I haven’t had this much fun with a driving game since the first Driver game was released for Playstation 1. Now I should mention that I only played the free mode in Driver, which allowed me to drive around the city being chased by the cops. I enjoyed trying to come up with the most intense and crazy crashes that were possible when I played Driver. I get the same happy feeling when I play the rag doll games in Flatout.
