Few games are this ambitious, and even fewer can mold these ambitions into such a complete and entertaining experience. You might spend 50 or more hours on your first play-though, but there are so many paths to follow, so many details to uncover, and so many ways to customize your party that you'll want to play again as soon as you finish the first time. PC owners even get an extra dash of depth via the downloadable toolset, which lets you create new levels, spells, skills, and even cutscenes.

That’s because Dragon Age doesn’t make you feel like a scumbag for acting less than chivalrous. For every problem there are several solutions, each with their own set of pros and cons - and deciding the best course of action is great fun. Had we chosen a different race and background, we would have experienced a completely different introduction to Dragon Age’s world. There are six origin stories in total, all unique and equally compelling.

Dragon Age: Origins is a richly detailed, story-driven RPG that fans of the genre absolutely must pick up. If you have the option to do so, I would recommend the PC version of the game, as it brings the most options and the best graphics to the table. However, if a console is your gaming platform of choice, you still owe it to yourself to pick this game up. Just be prepared – As with most Bioware RPGs, you can expect to sink over a hundred hours into this game in the first playthrough.
