There’s fun to be had here, but also a lot of frustration as you wrestle with design decisions that were made over two decades ago, in an era when three-dimensional jumping and movement was still very much being figured out. We desperately need more 3D platformers on PC, but ones that look to the future, not the past.
It's easy to imagine how a dyed-in-the-wool Crash fan will fall in love all over again via the N. Sane Trilogy, but if you're experiencing Crash for the first time--or the first time in a while--it might pain you to realize that Crash's original adventures aren't as inventive or surprising as they were 20 years ago.
So should you buy it? In my opinion, if you are a ‘90s kid and grew up on Crash Bandicoot, or just happen to like games from a seemingly dying genre, then Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is worth the $40 asking price. It’s a great romp through nostalgia and an excellent example of what proper remakes should be. The PC version is king and that’s the version you should buy.
