While I rarely found it laugh-out-loud funny, there's a joyfulness to its scenarios that I couldn't help but smile at. And, while it can often feel arbitrarily surreal, it grounds itself well with a central relationship between Chuchel and rodent-ish nemesis Kekel that's heartwarming to watch unfold.
Trying to find fault in CHUCHEL, though, is a pretty pointless endeavor. The game sets out with a simple goal, achieves it beautifully, and doesn’t waste your time getting its point across. I don’t really know how much better this could get. I suppose $10 might be a bit much for some to swallow, but CHUCHEL is a great experience that is definitely worth a whirl. If nothing else, it made me want to watch some Tom & Jerry again, so that is worth something.
Chuchel is like a kid demanding your constant attention - charming and entertaining at first, then the novelty wears off. Fortunately, taking a break from Chuchel is easy - as soon as you've figured out what everything in the menu actually does, that is. We enjoyed the time we got to spend with Chuchel and Kekel. It was fun, entertaining, challenging, and somewhat frustrating at times, but what puzzle game isn't? So if you're looking for some fun mental exercises, and have a few hours to kill, Chuchel is definitely worth a try.
