The world has changed. A crippling energy crisis has forced gas prices past $7 a gallon and sent the American economy into a frightening tailspin. Terrorist factions have taken advantage of this severe instability, striking the nation regularly without warning. Fallout from this collapse has been devastating. The U.S. and the world are experiencing unprecedented disorder. Through this techno-thriller story constructed by military expert and author Dale Brown, this real-time strategy experience puts players squarely in control of counterterrorist forces to defend cities of the world. As commander of a newly formed anti-terror military unit known as the Talon Task Force, players will need to recruit combat units, develop technologies, manage finite resources, and deploy their forces against a cunning and ruthless terror network.

Put it all together and Act of War is an excellent real-time strategy game, packed with great gameplay and beautiful visuals. This is one that's good enough to unseat Command & Conquer's grip on the military-themed real-time strategy genre. Add the game's impressive production values and techno-thriller plot, and you have nothing less than an early candidate for strategy game of the year.

As I said before, Act of War: Direct Action is a very solid gaming package. While the single player campaign was relegated to the American viewpoint and a tad bit on the brief side, it was a fun experience while there. Units seem to be well balanced, combat is fun and made pretty interesting by dense city sections, and the visuals should keep anybody more than satisfied.

Act of War: Direct Action is a really good real-time strategy game. While it doesn’t really innovate the genre any, the story for this game really pushes the players to continue playing so they can see what happens in the end. The real-time cutscenes are a terrific addition, even though the acting was on the lame side. If you are in the mood for a good RTS game, then you should pick Act of War: Direct Action up.
