A Way Out truly excels at being a really unique video game experience. It tells a familiar cinematic story in a way no other medium can thanks to its brilliant execution. Some may find elements of the game lacking due to it being a bit simple but it can also be seen as a positive due to the fact that it allows more people to play the game. It could alienate some hardcore gamers but if you’re looking for a good co-op experience, A Way Out is one of the best of its kind.
A Way Out is at its best when it's conjuring up inventive things for you and your co-op buddy to do. Though elaborating any further would spoil it, there are a few action scenes where co-operation is much more than just pressing square at the right time, while a few mini-games dotted throughout its chapters also provide fun distractions. When A Way Out deviates from its quick-time events it's a great deal of fun, and even small activities such as cajoling fish towards your buddy's makeshift wooden spear can be hilarious.
In fact, aside from the similar character design, the only thing that slightly - and I mean slightly - irked be about A Way Out was that the opening was a little QTE (quick time event) heavy. But I think the only genuine problem A Way Out has is getting people playing. Co-op can put a lot of players off, but not experiencing A Way Out is denying yourself of one of gaming’s greatest adventures to date.
