We’ve known for a while that several titles will be making the jump from the current gen of consoles to the next. And while fans are excited for CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, it looks like the devs will be bringing along one of their most popular games to the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
CDPR released in a statement:
While the game will be available as a standalone purchase for the PC, Xbox Series X, and PS5, owners of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for Xbox One and PS4 will be able to get the improvements as a free upgrade.
It’s very fascinating to see the transition from the current generation of games to the next because there seems to be an emphasis on Backwards Compatibility and being able to bring all the games in your old library along to the next console.
While Xbox seems to be confident with their BC, PlayStation is only able to port over games from the PS4. We don’t have any full details yet, but hopefully we get an update before the consoles release.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, and it will be available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X sometime in 2021.
