Fans have waited seven years for the release of The Last of Us Part II, and the game is finally going to come out next week. While this looks to be the end of the story with Ellie, creative director Neil Druckmann reveals that there could be a third game down the line.
Talking to GQ, Druckmann talks about his plans after the release of Part II, and he reveals:
“As you start wrapping things up, creatively there are fewer and fewer responsibilities and my mind can’t help but think about the next thing… So, yeah, the next thing could be a Part III, the next thing could be some new IP.”
No one has any idea what’s coming by the end of The Last of Us Part II, but it may be safe to assume that Ellie doesn’t die.
With The Last of Us universe spending decades in an apocalyptic state thanks to the Cordyceps, the third game may revolve around trying to deliver a cure to the infected.
Until we can get our hands on Part II, fans can only guess what happens. Druckmann himself has stated that the ending was not part of the leaked plots.
The Last of Us Part II is set for a release on June 19.
