Public Beta Begins for Space Combat Sim 'In The Black'

Though Star Wars Squadrons may have come out in October, Alienware and Impeller Studios are ready to bring players a new combat sim called In the Black. Originally called Starfighter, Inc., In the Black has just opened a public beta and 100,000 keys are available for anyone who’s interested to try it out.

Here’s the official announcement:

The official description reads:

Starfighter Inc. has been the working title of our hardcore space combat sim based on realism, but we are excited to share that the final name of the game is In The Black, a double entendre for space and profit.

The latest update to the beta includes a new Reus-class medium fighter and an updated Hyperios-class heavy fighter. Several tweaks have also been made to the HUD for better functionality, and a ‘Quick Comms’ menu has also been added to make it easier to strategize without voice chat.

What’s great about the game is that the devs behind In the Black are all AAA veterans who have worked on games like X-Wing and Mechwarrior. Game director Jam Mamais has also done work on titles like Far Cry and Crysis.

For now, it looks like In the Black will only be playable in PC, but hopefully they’ll be able to bring the game over to the next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Though nothing official has been announced for now, it’s likely In the Black could come to other platforms by next year.
