The Last of Us Part II was the most-talked about game of June, and Naughty Dog isn’t quite done with the story of Ellie and Abby. Just in, they’ve announced the Grounded Update which will add a whole new level of difficulty to the game, as well as a Permadeath mode.

In Grounded mode, players will be forced to go through the game without the Listen mode as well as a minimal HUD; and enemies will also be made deadlier with ammo, supplies, and upgrades made incredibly scarce.
If that isn’t enough though, you can also play the Permadeath mode which will only allow you one life for the whole game; meaning that if you die even once, you’re going to start over from the very beginning.
Naughty Dog isn’t going to make it completely impossible to play, as players will also be allowed to make checkpoints per chapter/act where if you die in the middle of Day One, you’ll just have to play that day all over again.
While Grounded and Permadeath seem to be the main points of the update, there’s also new material for people who aren’t masochists. Naughty Dog has added a bunch of fun filters to change the visuals of the game, and you can have it either cell-shaded or in retro 8-bit.
