Long games with no substance suck, but long games with a powerful finale can make up for every moment you spent trudging through its numerous chapters. You could say that these games make you feel 'empty' once the credits roll.

Here are my top picks of games that take a hundred or more hours to finish, but with a good emotional payoff at the end.

Note that this list is exclusively for single-player games. Adding live-service games would defeat its purpose.

Music makes games more memorable. Which is why I'm making this list to showcase my favorite videogames with an amazing soundtrack. 



From the melodic orchestra's of Kingdom Hearts, to the upbeat electronica of Neon White, these are games that can keep that earworm wriggling.

Walking Simulators

For [The Wolf Among Us](https://whatoplay.com/pc/the-wolf-among-us/) and [The Lion's Song](https://whatoplay.com/android/the-lions-song/), they provide different dialogue and action options but no matter your choice, it ultimately won't affect the outcome of the story. 

[Late Shift](https://whatoplay.com/pc/late-shift/) is an FMV or basically an interactive movie. 

[Heavy Rain](https://whatoplay.com/pc/heavy-rain/) and [Detroit Become Human](https://whatoplay.com/pc/detroit-become-human/) have the same gameplay style and feel because they were developed by the same developer, Quantic Dream. It contains QTEs and exploration but most of the time focuses on the story/cutscenes.

[The Stanley Parable ](https://whatoplay.com/pc/the-stanley-parable/)is a walking simulator with several multiple endings that feels the most fresh and unique even after having already completed other play-throughs.

**Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition *(Nintendo Switch)***

Never had I made more time during the Summer 2020 to play another game than this. How would you not love Shulk and the rest of the gang finding revenge when the Mechons attack their village and lost his childhood friend in the process. It is still one of the best games on the Switch that I highly recommend getting. If you follow PROJECT RAINFALL, The Last Story and Pandora’s Tower is also one of my favorites (but it will be on another topic as these two were not released on the Switch). No time to make a long explanation, just get on to the list already!

**Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana *(PS Vita, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch)***

My obsession with this game is staggering! At first, I was in doubt about getting this game. It was called the “Zelda” of the PlayStation, as from a friend who recommended this game, because it was first released specifically for the PlayStation Vita. Adol Christin, a red haired adventurer, is the main character of the game.

**MegaMan Battle Network 3 White and Blue *(GameBoy Advance)***

The game that introduced me to playing RPG. The Blue Bomber is back to end the evil plans of Dr. Wiley with his game of WWW from taking over the world. It is one of the best games I have played on the GameBoy Advance.

**Fire Emblem: Awakening *(Nintendo 3DS)***

No wonder this game is so underrated. It has this simple way to introduce a strategic turn-based RPG with a great story. I highly recommend this game if you want to get your toes wet with strategic RPG.

**Tales of the Abyss *(PlayStation2, Nintendo 3DS)***

I did not care about this game until I saw the short anime series. I love playing this game instead of playing the original game on the PlayStation2. This game is one of the MUST PLAY games on the 3DS.
