All of the new maps and new ways to play create a novel experience, close enough to the game you loved for so many years to satisfy that zombie-smashing urge but with enough new bells and whistles to keep you entertained. Continue the fun in the sequel to Plants vs. Zombies. New plants, new zombies, and new maps make this a must play.

If you played PvsZ, you'll love it with all your guts, otherwise you should give it a go anyway. That's all, folks. If you played the first, play the second. Otherwise, play the second, at least to have your own word about the game everybody has been talking, is talking and will be talking about.

Hardcore strategy fans might hunger for a deeper challenge, and I wish there was a way to unlock the some of the original PvZ plants without spending real money. Even so, when one of my biggest complaints about the game is that I got a cramp from holding my iPad for too long, it’s clear that Plants vs. Zombies 2 is just as addictive as the original

So long as EA and PopCap don't eventually ruin the game through greedy in-app purchases, the base game at launch is a treat, and worth a download from every iOS owner out there. What you're getting is basically more of that classic Plants vs. Zombie experience, with just enough tweaks to keep it interesting -- and that's more than enough for me.

Plants vs. Zombies 2 is everything you could have wanted, or expected, from the sequel to one of the greatest casual games of all time. It’s safe to say this one was well worth the wait, and then so much more.

Finally and as expected, the game has undergone a graphics overhaul. The great sense of humor is heightened by better animation and more detailed, yet still cartoonish graphics. The soundtrack is instantly familiar to fans of course, and the whole package is terrifically presented.

Completionists are in trouble, because this title will consume their life. PopCap rolled the dice in a big way when they moved to free-to-play. Fortunately, their risk paid dividends for all involved. Even the undead should have this installed on every iOS device they own, because it is a no-brainer.

All in all, PvZ2 is an incredible sequel. Unless you're exceptionally impatient or just not very good at these kind of games, it'll be totally free for you to play. If you've found yourself burnt by freemium games in the past, I highly recommend giving this one a spin as it might change your opinion on the pay model.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time is that rare title that gets better as you progress, crediting dedicated players who know that the best things are yet to come. To be honest, I really don’t care if Crazy Dave finds that taco. I’m having way too much fun in the garden, even if it’s being fertilized by a few unwelcome house guetst.

This is a remarkable sequel, one that takes its predecessor not as a template, but a jumping-off point. And for all the justifiable concern about its chosen business model, its implementation of the free-to-play model prizes players’ hearts above the contents of their wallets.

No matter how you play, the gameplay is founded on the tension between your game plan and the fact that you’ll almost never have enough sun or space to fully execute said game plan. But that’s the point: when things invariably go wrong, the fun is in scrambling to adapt and emerging battered but victorious. Plants vs. Zombies 2 sometimes forgets that with its overblown Power Up system. Even so, it’s an excellent – if overly safe – sequel, and as beautifully presented as it is absorbing to play.

If you're okay with the constant lure of paid for shortcuts and a bit of a grind Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time is one of the best times you can currently have on iPad. The game may be a little more difficult to control on iPhone, but it's still very good. And while love and hate is a beautiful combination I have to admit love is the feeling that wins out in the end with Plants vs. Zombies 2.

As a result, it comes recommended to more experienced players with a high tolerance for repetition. Beginners or newcomers, however, may find their wallets much lighter - or their blood pressure higher - by the time they've finished. A worthy sequel to a much-loved original, but one that suffers from structural changes introduced to accommodate IAP.
