The sheer fact that spending money is at all tempting is a testament to Candy Crush Saga, however. It's a fun Match Three puzzler and refreshingly taxing at times. A few free power-ups to start out with would have been appreciated but it's forgivable, given the otherwise fun nature of the game. It'll make you hungry for candy, too! ...Candy Crush Saga is a free to play Match Three game with more than a hint of strategy and careful planning required.

As for friend integration, the ability to view current high scores makes the game even more addictive. Depending on who's ahead, taking their top spot will become an obsession. Consider yourself warned. Add high-resolution graphics that'll make you hungry just looking at them, along with happy-sounding music, and Candy Crush Saga is match-three evolved. Quite frankly, we didn't expect to fall in love with this game. Excellent stuff.

Still, despite a few niggling complaints, Candy Crush Saga wows us with what it accomplishes. The puzzles are challenging and plentiful, the microtransactions are unobtrusive, and the presentation is top notch. If you’re a fan of a good match-3 puzzler – whether you typically play Facebook games or not – Candy Crush Saga should be the next game on your playlist.

A challenging, surprisingly imaginative match-three puzzler - but there's little reason to tolerate its free-to-play fussiness with so much stellar competition in the field.
