All in all, at first play, it comes across as a competent port, and it doesn’t rely too much on nostalgia to make its presence felt. Just as well, because the blast to the past can then be an added benefit.
Galaga Wars features incredibly smooth and awesome cartoony graphics that actually look really nice. Gameplay is sure to bring nostalgia to veteran gamers, yet is accessible enough for newer gamers. It’s a perfect time-killer. Veteran nostalgic gamers will certainly remember the punishing difficulty setting, and Galaga Wars is no different. You’ll also have to pay to unlock different ships, which cheapens the Galaga legacy.
It’s certainly fun to shoot at aliens, but eventually you’ll find things turning too repetitive. You’ll feel as if you’re not gaining a substantial edge in combat. The kind of edge that would make you want to play more. That leaves Galaga Wars as the kind of game you’ll enjoy fleetingly, before inevitably seeking out a weightier frantic shooter.
