Chroma Squad is a tactical RPG about five stunt actors who decide to quit their jobs and start their own Power Rangers-inspired TV show! Requires 1GB of RAM or more. Cast actors, purchase equipment and upgrades for your studio, craft weapons and giant Mechas out of cardboard and duct tape. Once the cameras are rolling, you will control your cast of five colored-jumpsuit-clad warriors in dramatic, turn-based battles!

In fact, if you’re old enough to go all the way back to the beginning of the Power Rangers brand, you’ll probably enjoy Chroma Squad on a level that younger gamers might not appreciate. The nice part is that it’s of high enough quality that anyone can enjoy it, and the fact that Bandai Namco published it gives the game an extra special seal of approval. Get ready to be shouting “Lights, Camera, Chromatize!” at random moments and have other people looking at you strangely. Unless, of course, they’re playing too, in which case they might flash you a knowing smile.
Chroma Squad is a charming experience, albeit one with a lack of depth in its core mechanics. But it’s an experience that uses its source material smartly by crafting a gameplay setting that would still work under a different backdrop. While I don’t think it does any one particular thing to an exceptional manner (the writing is acceptable, the combat is fine but repetitive, graphically its nothing you haven’t seen before) it all comes together in a polished 6-8 hour game that pays tribute to Power Rangers and the Super Sentai series.
