If you're interested in a modern classic that's both a loving retro homage and a cleverly design platformer, go ahead and give Mutant Mudds Deluxe a go first to see if it's your thing. If so, picking up Super Challenge wouldn't be a bad idea, because while it doesn't wildly alter the formula, it complements the series in an honorable way.

Whatever way you choose to experience it, Mutant Mudds Super Challenge is an absolute must have for platformer veterans. While the version of choice is largely dependent upon the preferred platform of each individual, we'd ultimately recommend the 3DS version over the Wii U version. The 3D effect adds a pleasing layer of depth to stages, and the overall design of the game feels better fit to a portable format. Either way, do yourself a favour and go download this.

I enjoyed most of Super Challenge, but the game’s last few levels and most of the boss fights left me more frustrated than anything else. This is an excellent pick-up for hardcore Mudd fans, but if you’re new to the series, don’t start with this game—go with its predecessor. Even for Mudd diehards, I suspect your mileage may vary.
